How can we help?
Please get in touch using the form below.
Answers to the questions we are asked most often about choosing, fitting and looking after an awning. For product-specific questions, see the FAQs on our patio awnings and conservatory awnings pages, or get in touch and we will be happy to help.
What types of awning do you supply and fit?
We supply and install made-to-measure patio and garden awnings, pergola awnings, conservatory awnings and balcony awnings, as well as commercial awnings, glass rooms and louvered roofs. Our range includes systems from Weinor, the German awning manufacturer.
What is the difference between a patio awning and a pergola awning?
A patio awning is fixed to the wall and folds back into its cassette when you do not need it. A pergola awning is supported by its own front posts, so it can cover larger areas and copes better with wind and rain. The Weinor Plaza Viva is a popular example, like this Plaza Viva awning in BR6.
What design options can I choose?
You choose the size, fabric colour and pattern, frame colour, and manual or motorised operation. Extras include integrated LED lighting, heaters, wind and sun sensors, valances and drop-down side screens, like the Semina Life with Vertitex screen and heaters we installed.
Can I control my awning with a remote or smart home system?
Yes. Motorised awnings open and close with a handheld remote, and many Weinor systems can be linked to smart home controls. An optional wind sensor retracts the awning automatically when it gets too breezy. The Weinor Kubata is a good example of a motorised model.
Is my wall strong enough for an awning?
Most solid brick and block walls can take an awning with the right fixings. Rendered walls, cladding, older brickwork and low rooflines may need spreader plates or a different fixing position. We check the wall construction as part of the survey and recommend the right awning brackets for your property.
Can you fit an awning to a bungalow or above a gutter?
Yes. Gutter brackets, sometimes called bungalow brackets, position the awning around or above the gutter line. They help where the wall is low or the fascia is deep, and they fix to a suitable part of the building rather than the gutter itself. Find out more about our awning brackets.
Can you put an awning on a conservatory?
Yes. We can fit an awning to the house wall above the conservatory, mount a system on the conservatory roof, or fit an under-glass awning inside. Our conservatory awnings page explains each option.
Do I need planning permission for an awning?
Usually not for a retractable awning on a house, but the rules can be different for listed buildings, homes in conservation areas, flats and commercial premises. If you are unsure, check with your local council or the Planning Portal.
Can awnings be used in wind and rain?
Awnings are designed for sun shading and will shelter you from light showers, but they should be retracted in strong wind or heavy rain. A wind sensor does this for you automatically. If you want cover you can use in most weather, a pergola awning is the better choice.
Can you replace the fabric on my existing awning?
In many cases, yes. If the frame and arms are still in good condition, we can fit new fabric to your existing awning, which can cost much less than a full replacement. Get in touch with the make and size of your awning and we will advise.
How do I clean and look after my awning?
Brush off loose dirt and leaves regularly, clean the fabric with a soft brush and mild soapy water, and always let it dry fully before leaving it retracted for long. Our step-by-step guide on how to clean awning fabric covers it in detail.
How long does an awning last?
A quality awning that is cleaned regularly and retracted in bad weather should give many years of service. Weinor frames are powder coated to resist fading and corrosion, and if the fabric wears out it can be replaced without changing the whole frame.
How much does an awning cost?
It depends on the size, the type of awning and the options you choose. As a guide, wall-mounted awnings in our online shop start from £1,248 ex VAT, with larger motorised models costing more. Pergola, conservatory and commercial systems are priced to suit each project.
Do you offer free quotes?
Yes. Contact us with a few details about your property and the area you would like to shade, and we will arrange a free quote.
Do you install commercial awnings?
Yes. We fit awnings for cafés, restaurants, hotels, shops, offices and venues, from simple shopfront shading to larger projects like the three PergoTex II systems at Guards Polo Club.
